The street will remain closed until the trees are removed and all
debris is cleaned up.
Last fall, city crews removed all the dead limbs and the drying crowns
from bot trees. This summer, an additional 30 percent of the crown died

~r,,,r back. I June, a large limb fell from the maple tree in front of the
entrance to City Hall on 8th Avenue. This prompted the city to undertake a
detailed hazard assessment of all large maple trees around City Hall. The
assessme is showed extensive internal decay in the two trees. Decay within
the limb of the trees exceeded 30 percent, the threshold for limb failure.
Acc rding to Jan Staszewski, the city's urban forester, they cannot save
the tree "Given their condition, limbs will continue to fall and could
eventually hit a person or vehicle," Stazewski said.
The report shows that the other two maples on 7th Avenue show some die
back and internal decay. The City will continue to monitor them.
