Gi'~~
Public Works

Wr City of Eugene
858 Pearl Street
Eugene, Oregon 97401
(503) 687-5262
NEWS RELEASE
OCTOBER 12, 1992
CONTACT: Bob Hammitt, 687-5220
FROM Public Information Section, 687-5523
FOR IMME IATE RELEASE
KEEP SIDEWALKS CLEAN FOR SAFETY
Citizens of Eugene rely on the sidewalk system to take care of business
and for personal needs. The sidewalk system provides a safe place for
citizens of all ages to walk to bus stops, schools, and shops or simply to
get exe cise. Persons with disabilities are especially dependent on safe
sidewal s.
Th Eugene Code says that property owners must keep their sidewalks free
of ice, snow, and leaves at all times. The following are some tips that may
help ke p your sidewalks clean during the fall and winter seasons:
- ake leaves off your sidewalk before rain storms. Rain makes the
leaves xtra slippery. Leaves may be raked into the street and piled away
from th gutter for the City's crews to pick up, or they make very good mulch
for gar en areas.
- uring snow storms, be sure to shovel your sidewalk as soon as
possibl Once snow is walked on, it packs down and sticks to the concrete,
making it difficult to remove.
more
