Shelby, director of aviation at Mahlon <br /> Sweet Air ort for 16 years, formally announced his plans to retire. In a <br /> letter to Christine Andersen director of the cit of Eu ene ublic works <br /> y g P <br /> departmen and to the airport commission, Shelby outlined his plans to <br /> retire this fall and said he had decided to leave prior to the beginning of <br /> the next apital improvement program. He offered his assistance in recruiting <br /> ~I the new a iation director to ensure a smooth and successful transition. <br /> Discussing his reasons for retiring, Shelby said, "the bonds have been <br /> sold and the funding is in place and we have a top notch contractor on <br /> board. I feel that, except for handling the dust, the airport expansion <br /> project has successfully become a reality, and eight years of work are <br /> <br /> i <br /> nearly finished. I was planning to retire when the project was completed, <br /> but in looking beyond the terminal expansion project to the future needs <br /> of the ai port, I felt now was the time to bring in someone who could begin <br /> the next s ries of projects and become involved in the new master plan." <br /> "Unde the new federal aid legislation, we have a new capital program to <br /> ~I implement ithin the next five years.
