Th cable will link Pacific Northwest Bell's local office with the <br /> microwave relay station on Blanton Heights in Eugene. <br /> West Valley Contractors, project contractor from Campbell, Calif., <br /> will inst 11 a single, twelve-fiber lightway cable which can transmit 275,000 <br /> ~ simultane us telephone conservations. The cable is enclosed in a 1/2-inch <br /> sheathed able, placed in a one-inch conduit, which is then placed in a <br /> four-inch conduit and installed underground. The hair-thin optical fiber <br /> <br /> I!, ~ transmits voice, video and data messages, encoded as pulses of light, over <br /> long dist nces.
