~ ~ i <br /> <br /> `irr <br /> NEWS RELEASE <br /> July 17, 1986 <br /> ' Contact: Ivan Koehn, 687-5230 <br /> Sandra Gleason, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> MOSS STREET TO BECOME PRIVATE ROAD <br /> On J ly 16, 1986 the Public Works Department closed Moss Street from 13th <br /> Avenue no th approximately 240 feet along Williams' Bakery property lines. <br /> A cul-de- ac to serve property owners to the south will be constructed on <br /> Moss Stre t at the north end of the Williams' Bakery, with access from 15th <br /> j ~ Avenue. <br /> Williams' Bakery, who have had long-standing problems with parking, <br /> loading a d expansion, applied for a vacation of Moss Street in 1985 to meet <br /> j their pla s for expanding and remodeling the existing bakery. They agreed to <br /> ~ pay for t e cost of installing the cul-de-sac and relocating the water main <br /> and stree lights. <br /> Acco ding to Bert Teitzel, city engineer, vacating (returning a street <br /> to the ab tting property owners) is carefully analyzed by the city. "All <br /> property wners abutting a street or alley that is to be vacated must agree <br /> I,~ to it, an the public interest must be protected. Before the Council votes on <br /> the issue we examine traffic circulation in the area, analyze the effects of <br /> the proje t on other property owners and hold two public hearings." <br /> H & Construction was awarded the $31,356 contract to build the <br /> ~~,I <br /> ~ cul-de-sa and install the storm sewer. While construction is in process, <br /> Moss betty en 13th and 15th Avenues will be closed to through traffic.
