<br /> I <br /> ' NEWS RELEASE <br /> ' January 2, 1987 <br /> i <br /> ~ CONTACT: Ivan Koehn, Engineering Consturction Inspector, 687-5230 <br /> Sandra Gleason, Public Information Coordinator, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> ' CITY TO REPLACE SANITARY SEWER LINES <br /> On anuary 5, 1987, H & J Construction of Eugene will begin replacing <br /> ' ' deterior ting sanitary sewer lines in the alley between Alder and Hilyard <br /> Streets, from 25th to 30th Avenues. <br /> Acc rding to Ivan Koehn, Engineering construction inspector, the old <br /> concrete sanitary sewer pipe, which is over 40 years old, has begun to crack <br /> i, ! and dete iorate and the cemented joints are breaking apart. The old lines <br /> will be eplaced with more durable PVC pipe. The new sections are longer than <br /> I <br /> <br /> ~ the old ipe and will have fewer joints, creating a stronger line. <br /> The deterioration was discovered through the Public Works Department's <br /> annual s wer line survey. Crews divide the City into five sections, and one <br /> section f line is videotaped each year. <br /> I <br /> Koe n said the degree of disintegration shown by the tape warranted an <br /> <br /> ~I <br /> ~ entire r placement of the line, rather than repairing particular sections. <br /> <br /> ~ Replacem nt will cost approximately x88,900. <br /> The contractor will lay the new sanitary sewer pipe in a five-foot <br /> trench d wn the middle of the alley; traffic will be delayed only when <br /> construc ion crosses an intersection. If weather permits, construction will <br /> begin Ja 5, and the streets between Alder and Hilyard will be closed on the <br /> <br />
