NEWS RELEASE <br /> November 3, 1987 <br /> i <br /> ~ CONTACT: Larry Reed, Building Official, 687-5283 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERS AMENDMENTS TO SOLAR ORDINANCE <br /> The solar setback portion of the solar access ordinance was returned to <br /> the Euge a city council on Monday, November 16 to reconsider amendments <br /> I <br /> suggeste by the city's homebuilding industry. The Council adopted one <br /> j recommen ation, but basically left intact the solar setback ordinance they <br /> i <br /> adopted in August, 1986. <br /> <br /> '~r The ouncil examined five recommendations. First, to change the solar <br /> access p otection date from December 21 to January 1; to change the guaranteed <br /> height f om 24 to 26 feet; to change the height of the solar fence from 8 feet <br /> I <br /> to eithe 10 or 12 feet; to change the slope tables to increments of five <br /> I <br /> degrees instead of the current three degree increments; and finally to include <br /> an exemp ion that states, "when a lot existing on December 1, 1987, is abutted <br /> by lots 11 having main buildings exceeding 25 feet in height, then the <br /> permitte height and setbacks for the lot shall be the maximum permitted in <br /> the zoni g district." <br /> Of he five recommendations, the Council voted to change the slope tables <br /> to five egree from 3 degree increments. According to Larry Reed, city <br /> building official, the change will make taking measurements simpler and, in a <br /> small nu ber of cases, will slightly reduce the solar access protection. <br /> more <br /> <br />
