NEWS RELEASE
November 3, 1987
i
~ CONTACT: Larry Reed, Building Official, 687-5283
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERS AMENDMENTS TO SOLAR ORDINANCE
The solar setback portion of the solar access ordinance was returned to
the Euge a city council on Monday, November 16 to reconsider amendments
I
suggeste by the city's homebuilding industry. The Council adopted one
j recommen ation, but basically left intact the solar setback ordinance they
i
adopted in August, 1986.

'~r The ouncil examined five recommendations. First, to change the solar
access p otection date from December 21 to January 1; to change the guaranteed
height f om 24 to 26 feet; to change the height of the solar fence from 8 feet
I
to eithe 10 or 12 feet; to change the slope tables to increments of five
I
degrees instead of the current three degree increments; and finally to include
an exemp ion that states, "when a lot existing on December 1, 1987, is abutted
by lots 11 having main buildings exceeding 25 feet in height, then the
permitte height and setbacks for the lot shall be the maximum permitted in
the zoni g district."
Of he five recommendations, the Council voted to change the slope tables
to five egree from 3 degree increments. According to Larry Reed, city
building official, the change will make taking measurements simpler and, in a
small nu ber of cases, will slightly reduce the solar access protection.
more
