NEWS RELEASE <br /> June 11, 19 7 <br /> CONTACT: Ivan Koehn, Public Works Construction Supervisor, 687-5230 <br /> ands Gleason, Public Information, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDI TE RELEASE <br /> CITY TO RESURFACE BERTLESEN ROAD <br /> ~ On Sa urday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14, Asphalt Maintenance Associates <br /> j <br /> of Veneta ill place a slurry seal over Bertlesen Road. Work will begin at <br /> 7 a.m. and the street will be reopened by 5:30 p.m. both days; two lanes of <br /> traffic wi 1 remain open. Crews will begin at Bertlesen Road and 11th Avenue, <br /> moving nor h to the Southern Pacific railroad tracks. <br /> Accor ing to Ivan Koehn, Public Works construction supervisor, a slurry <br /> seal is a iquid mixture of water and crushed rock that is heated then spread <br /> 1/8-inch t ick over the street. "Slurry sealing provides a new surface that <br /> prolongs the life of the street 5 to 6 years by delaying further <br /> deteriora ion. It is the most efficient and economical method for repairing <br /> and maint fining streets and is a part of the city's yearly maintenance <br /> t <br /> program," said Koehn. <br /> The lurry takes four to six hours to dry, depending on the weather, and <br /> will stic to feet and wheels while wet. Residents are asked to move their <br /> vehicles nd park them outside the work area. The road may be driven on as <br /> r <br /> 4 <br /> soon as s gns and barricades are removed. <br /> j Crew will return on Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21 to place <br /> another s al on the street. "Because Bertlesen carries such a heavy traffic <br /> load, it eeds a stronger surface," continued Koehn. <br /> t <br /> The roject cost is $43,065.
