MEMORANDUM ~K wi~q,~ ~
October 1 1987 ~ ~ ~~.~SJ
~ ~ ~ . G?f l'I~s d.~ ~/.r~y
T0: Crew Supervisors 9~~ ~ . ~A y
f O K i'l~Gl~
FROM: Gene Shutt, Operations Superintendent ~,,,,,,,Q ;,~~a ~,,e~
SUBJECT: MILLRACE CLEANUP / / /
Brad Perk ns of the West University Neighborhood Association is coordinating a
Millrace lean-up. He expects to have about 100 university students to help
clean deb is, and he has asked if we could help. The date for the clean-up is
Sunday, N vember 8th. They plan to assemble at 8:00 a.m. near the Patterson
Towers by the Millrace. Since we have had a lot of complaints about the
j condition of the Millrace, I have agreed to offer our assistance. I would
appreciat your help in the following ways:
Jim Kearn
1. By 0 tober 26th, contact the staff at the University of Oregon physical
plan and have them adjust their pumps and water flow at a date they are
comf rtable with. We must give notice of at least one week.

rr 2. Bloc off the Millrace inlet at Franklin Boulevard on the morning of
Nove ber 2nd. You indicated this would be plenty of time to lower the
Ovate level, and would not interfere with the University of Oregon
Home oming date of October 31st.
Dick Hubb rd
1. 'lave about 25 rakes/pitchforks available for loading on November 6th. A
combination of 12/12 would be fine. Mr. Perkins will try to get some
addi Tonal tools from the University of Oregon. Provide our staff with
boots if they request them but we will not provide any boots or rain gear
for the volunteer group.
Rav Baker
j 1. Alert Darrell Hookland about the clean-up effort and have him check the
' outle on a daily basis from November 3rd through November 13th, except
for V terans Day, of course.
2. Arran a to have the grates repaired and welded while the water level is
down. This must be done on November 5th or November 6th. If it cannot be
done until after the 9th, let Jim Kearns know so he can leave the water
level down for an additional day or two.
i
