The opening ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. <br /> i <br /> with State Representative Carl Hosticka and Mayor Brian B. Obie kicking off <br /> the celebr tion. <br /> Duran the day-long event, community residents will have an opportunity <br /> to actuall operate public works equipment, such as street sweepers, <br /> backhoes, ump trucks, aerial lift trucks, and much more. Hands-on display <br /> range from operating the engine diagnostic equipment to participating in a <br /> nail drivi g contest to running a simulated pump station to solving a puzzle <br /> made of PV pipe to viewing the micro-organisms found at the wastewater <br /> treatment lant through microscopes and a video monitor. Free bicycle <br /> identification stamping will be available for all bikes brought to the event. <br /> Art by area school children will be on display, and hot dogs, popcorn, and <br /> drinks will be available throughout the day. <br /> Accord'ng to Christine Andersen, public works director, we all depend on <br /> public work services, but the public often doesn't understand what the <br /> <br /> ~ ~ more <br /> <br />
