The restriping will provide additional <br /> <br /> i <br /> space for vehicles and will improve traffic safety along this section of the <br /> street. northbound bike lane will also be added to better accom~'date <br /> bicycle t affic. Parking will be removed on the east side of the street to <br /> accomodat the restriping. <br /> Acco ding to Brant Williams, city traffic engineer, the restriping and <br /> parking r moval will help reduce the number of accidents that have been <br /> occurring along this five-block section of Hilyard. "These accidents are a <br /> result of the increasing volume of traffic and a significant increase in the <br /> number of conflicts involving pedestrians, bikes, buses, and parked vehicles. <br /> The strip ng design will offer safer and smoother conditions for Hilyard <br /> Street tr ffic," Williams said. <br /> Betw en 11,000 and 15,000 vehicles a day currently used Hilyard.
