This proposal is based on the selected conceptual art piece
design called "Marker of Origin", submitted by the artist team of David Thompson & Betsy
Wolfston.
The architectural and structural aspect of the Art Sculpture Base includes the design and
detailing of the foundation and concrete base above grade (approximately eight foot octagon
and 16-20 inches tall) and anchorage of the base plate of the Marker (base plate designed by
the artist). The base design will be generated by the following known information:
1. Section and plan sketches created by David Thompson (attached for reference);
2. Site meeting on July 26, 2005, which included full scale mock-up of the base;
3. Structural Calculations prepared for David Thompson by Mark Richards,.June 12,
1996. for similar previously designed pieces.
We propose to provide architectural and structural engineering services on a labor and
expense basis with a maximum fee not to exceed $4,320.00. The following services are
included:
1. One meeting with the artist to discuss the character of the Marker (in order to
determine weights for lateral analysis);
2. Minimum construction administration.
The following services are excluded:
1. Structural design of the members that make up the Marker or their connections;
2. Re-grading of the surrounding area.
.ELAINE L. LAWSON, AIA We hope this proposal meets with your needs. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you
.MARK A. YOUNG, AIA have any questions.
