We
understand that the city will retain Inter Fluve, Inc. and CDM, separately, to complete the
work To this extent, we have submitted the required information to renew our on-call
contract with the City. Lori Davis was most helpful in this effort. The information was
submitted last week
Our initial proposal was to investigate the restoration site with backhoe test pits. This
met with opposition from the adjacent homeowners who feared excessive damage to the
vegetation. We, therefore, reluctantly drilled hand auger holes with the full realization
that the information gained might not be conclusive. The information from the manually
drilled holes indicated a thin soil layer over "refusal", which is interpreted as bedrock
~ ' based on drill action and a geologic reconnaissance. Shallow bedrock is observed in the
creek channel above and below Frederick Court.
s
Our discussions with Inter Fluve indicate that the near surface presence of bedrock is
critical to their final design. Therefore, we gave Inter Fluve a proposal to provide: l)
approximately 8 shallow, rubber-tired, backhoe~xcavated test pits (limited to 6 hours), 2)
inspection by an experienced field representative, 3) logs of the test pits, and 4) a brief
report of findings. We understand that the City would prefer that we not use afull--sized
rubber-tired backhoe to limit the environmental site impact and concerns of residents.
Therefore, we are in the process of retaining a small, track-mounted backhoe of the
~ Kubota variety, commonly used by landscapers. It is imperative that the City realize, and
convey to local property owners, that there will necessarily be some damage to vegetation
a~-Rrso~ws;o,~crsvc~y raq«»w~«~fw,~ o..+a~.ax
