X25 ~ ~ 'A1 i 1
C. Culvert Improvements at Fredrick Court

The recommended culvert improvement consists of replacing the existing 24" concrete culvert

crossing at Fredrick Court with a 36" concrete pipe (Figure 1). This improvement is expected to
eliminate the predicted flooding problem at this location'Tor the 10-year design storm. Since the
proposed open waterway does not follow the original channel alignment, URS recommends
abandoning the existing 24" culvert in place and constructing the 36" culvert according to the
new alignment.
PRELIMINARY COST ESTIMATE
The following table presents the recommended capital projects and estimated project
construction costs for the 34~' Avenue Storm Drainage system. The costs are based on unit costs
that were developed for the Eugene Storm Drainage Master Plan capital projects, which do not
include contingency costs, and on construction cost estimates from the recently completed Long
Fellow Creek Habitat-Restoration Master Plan for the City of Seattle. The 20% mark-up shown
represent costs associated with engineering design and administration.
Preliminary Cost Estimate for Capital Improvements
Location Capital Project Unit Cost Cost
Im lications
Delwood Drive 135 LF 36" CSP Re lacements $190/LF $26,000
Station 0+00 to 1+15 115 LF Open Waterway Improvements and Stream $100/LF* $11,500
Stabilization
370 LF Open Waterway Construction and
Station 1+15 to 4+80 Stream/Natural Resource Enhancements $100/LF $37,000
Fredrick Court 45 LF 36" Concrete Pi a Culvert $200/LF $9,000 _
En ineerin Administration (20%) $16,700
Total $100,200
Note: *The unit cost provided includes the unit cost for open channel improvements (i.e., clearing/grubbing,
excavation, truck haul, hydroseeding, and erosion control) of $20/LF and streambank stabilization (i.e., boulder bank
tce) of $80/LF. .
**The unit cost provided includes the unit cost for open waterway improvements (i.e., clearing/grubbing,
excavation, truck haul, hydroseeding, and erosion control) of $20/LF, the unit cost.for stream enhancements (i.e.,
stream boulders, and tree covers) of $50/LF, and the unit cost for vegetation enhancement (i.e., trees and shrubs) of
$30/LF. We assumed that natural resource enhancement (i.e., planting trees/shrubs) would be done on a 10 foot wide
buffer within both sides of the open waterway.
(;and ter( ~5-T c uP eoa t ~ ~t;~
a~ t ~ 3-}~ oac~ + ~ ~1,coo g'~/ 5cs~ . , : ~T.
. ,
a
S:\PRO194\945042ND1347'HAVE\CPMEMO.DOC 4
