CITY OF EUGENE CONTRACT 2007-00214
COBURG ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
ARCHAEOLOGICAL MONITORING
EXHIBIT B - SCOPE OF WORK
and
SCHEDULE OF SERVICE FEES AND RATES
Archaeolo4ical Moniitoring
The City of Eugene proposes to conduct roadway improvement activities along Coburg
Road in an area where a historic wood pier bridge is known to be located below the
present roadway. Although the current roadbed extends 18 to 24 inches below ground
surface, excavations will be conducted to approximately 36 inches below surface,
possibly encountering this historic feature. In keeping with State law protecting
archaeological resources, a professional archaeologist will be present in the field to
observe the initial construction excavations in the event archaeological indicators,
including the historic bridge, are exposed.
The City shall inform the archaeologists in advance of the construction schedule so they
can be present. Although potentially significant archaeological resources are not
anticipated, in the event that construction exposes such features, construction may be
halted or rerouted at the request of the monitoring archaeologist until the evidence can
be documented. The City shall provide measurements and drawings of structural
remains if encountered. A letter report reporting the results of the monitoring as well as
background historical information previously gathered by the City will be prepared for the
City and the State Historic Preservation Office.
Assumptions:
¦ One archaeologist will be present in the field up to three days for up to five hours
per day
¦ City shall provide background information of the buried bridge as well as
documentation (measurements, drawings, etc.) of the bridge if encountered
during construction
¦ Current scope assumes that no significant archaeological resources will be
encountered during the monitoring; additional work, if required, will be conducted
under a separate work scope
Deliverable:
¦ Draft and Final Monitoring Report (within 45 days of completion of fieldwork)
Project Budget:
Costs for this work will be billed on a time and materials basis, to include up to 15 hours

of field work for a monitoring archaeologist (up to $90/hr) and 20 hours for report
preparation. Costs will not exceed $3,200 under this scope of work.
