Both projects included the <br /> removal of trees in order to meet the project goals. Merchantable timber(saw logs and chip logs) removed <br /> from the sites were sold to area mills to help offset project costs. Under Oregon state law, the timber owner is <br /> required to report and pay tax on the harvested timber. <br /> Tax owed is calculated based on total "board feet" sold, and reported in thousands of board feet (MBF). Saw <br /> logs are sold by MBF and chip logs are sold by the ton. Chip log tonnage documented on mill receipts must be <br /> converted to MBF using a formula provided on the tax form. Tonnage for chip logs is converted to MBF by dividing the number of tons by 11. <br /> 2. Total MBF is calculated by adding sawlogs(MBF)and chip logs(MBF). <br /> The total wood products sold from City sites in 2015 is 177.0 MBF. The first 25 MBF sold are exempt from <br /> taxation, so the taxable amount of wood products is 152 MBF.
