And these are no
ordinary playgrounds.
They'll have stuff to rouse the imagination and stimulate the
senses. Like a treehouse village and kid-sized replicas of local
landmarks. Like spraying water and a place to dig for buried
artifacts and fossils. Like walls, nets and "mountains" to climb.
Like a miniature river ferry, pioneer plaza and an American
Indian longhouse.
Eugene city officials chose the
Hult Center to unveil the
architectural drawings for the
"RiverPlay" project to be built Planned Skinner
starting next summer. The Butte play area
sophisticated development will
blend science and history,
adventure and fantasy, art and lit
whimsy. .•
.r
After the news cameras left, a
half-dozen students from Guy
Lee Elementary School in Eugene
Springfield wandered by and `I
rendered their verdict.
"It's cools several exclaimed,
running their fingers along the
meandering blue lines that will The Register-Guard
become flowing waterways
representing the Willamette
River and Eugene Millrace.
Janessa Glenz, 7, said she definitely would play in the sandy
archaeological dig at Skinner Butte Park and climb the nets
that look like a mountain range at Alton Baker Park.
http://www.registerguard.com/cgi-bin/printStory.py?name=d 1.cr.playgrounds.1 21 9&date... 12/26/2003
