After several years of implementation work,the end of the bond measure - _ <br /> projects is in sight,and staff anticipates substantial completion of most projects in 2004. <br /> CITYWIDE AND REGIONAL PROJECTS <br /> The bond measure identified eight projects to develop or improve community-wide recreation facilities. <br /> The City's partnership with School District 4J <br /> Community/Regional Park Facilities expanded that total to nine projects.Five <br /> projects are completed,including the youth <br /> Cir .111"1 ■Goal sports parks,Amazon Pool,and the Alton Baker <br /> I •Completed Park boat launch. Another phase of Bethel <br /> i 0 I progress Community Park has been completed,with only <br /> 0 2 4 6 8 0 Planning one phase remaining.Amazon Park ballfields, <br /> Number of Projects the only remaining project,is scheduled for <br /> construction to begin next summer. <br /> Alton Baker Park <br /> Whilamut Natural Area of Alton Baker Park <br /> Bond measure funding for Alton Baker Park has been leveraged to receive an additional$71,000 matching <br /> grant from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to further enhance the Whilamut Natural Area. <br /> Matching funds are primarily comprised of existing staff resources from the Public Works Parks and Open <br /> Space Division. Funds from this grant will help meet a number of objectives: develop a habitat restoration <br /> plan for the natural area;remove existing invasive,non-native vegetation;plant and monitor new native <br /> species along the Willamette River and in the adjacent upland prairie; and install educational signage. <br /> These enhancements will take place over the next two years. <br /> Alton Baker Boat Launch <br /> City Manager Dennis Taylor,former City Manager Jim Johnson,City Councilor George Poling,Glen Love <br /> of McKenzie Fly Fishers,Jeff Ziller of Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife,Gabe O'Campo of the <br /> Northwest Steelheaders and other supporters dedicated the Alton Baker boat launch with an inaugural float <br /> down the Willamette River in late May.Built for non-motorized craft like drift boats,canoes,kayaks,and <br /> rafts,the boat launch provides first-class access to the Willamette River during regular park hours,from 7 <br /> a.m.to 11 p.m. The vision for a new boat launch in the park was first conceived in 1997 in the West <br /> 41) Alton Baker Park plan,after an informal gravel launch was discontinued in the eastern section of the park <br /> in 1996. <br /> POS Quarterly Update: 10/02/03 1 <br />
