-T V
\EUGENE/ rP/
October 8, 2003
CONTACT:
• Richard Zucker, park amenities supervisor, 682-4833
• Suzy Bock, neighborhood volunteer coordinator, 302-0884
• Therese Picado, public information specialist, Parks and Open Space, 682-4814 or 682-
4800
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEIGHBORS CELEBRATE GRAND OPENING OF NEWLY RENOVATED NEIGHBORHOOD
PARK
Country Lane Park neighbors will celebrate the grand opening of their
neighborhood park that they in conjunction with Public Works crews helped renovate
this Sunday, October 12, from 3 to 5 p.m. with a neighborhood picnic at the park. The
park, located off of Sorrel Way, opened for play last Sunday. Over the course of the
past month and a half, parks and concrete crews excavated the playground area,
removed the old playground equipment, constructed a new pathway around the
playground and wheelchair ramp, and installed new play equipment. Dozens of
neighbors pitched in to help pour the concrete and install the new play equipment which
includes new spring riders and a play structure, featuring a rock climbing wall, swings
and hanging rings. The spring riders were made possible by a City of Eugene
Neighborhood Matching Grant and fundraising by the local community. A new bench,
wheelchair-accessible picnic table and trash receptacle, scheduled to be installed in the
next couple of months, will put the finishing touches on this park's facelift.
"When we applied for a neighborhood grant for new spring riders, we had no idea
we would get a total remodel," says Suzy Bock, neighborhood volunteer coordinator for
the project who worked with City parks staff on the collaborative effort. "The kids love
the new park; one of their greatest thrills is riding their bikes on the sidewalk all the way
around the playground."
For more information about the park improvement, call 682-4833.
# ##
