Picado, Parks and Open Space Public Information Specialist, 682-4814 or <br /> 682-4800, therese.m.picado@ci.eugene.or.us <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO REMOVE INVASIVE PLANTS <br /> IN HENDRICKS PARK FOREST THIS SATURDAY <br /> On Saturday, September 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers will have the <br /> opportunity to continue restoration efforts in Hendricks Park forest by removing blackberry, ivy <br /> and other invasive vegetation. Work will take place in the forest around the recently restored <br /> historic oak knoll trail in the park. All volunteers are invited to meet at the F.M. Wilkins Shelter <br /> on Summit Avenue at 9:30 a.m. for pastries, juice and coffee courtesy of Eugene City Bakery <br /> and the Friends of Hendricks Park before the work begins. <br /> I (lb. <br /> Access to the work site is greatly improved, thanks to the hard work of volunteers who <br /> built a new trail over the course of the past few months. Non-native, invasive plant removal is <br /> an important component of the Hendricks Park Forest Management Plan, which, through <br /> partnerships with the community such as the Friends of the Hendricks Park, seeks to achieve a <br /> healthy, resilient and sustainable forest. <br /> Tools and equipment will be provided, and work clothes, rain gear and shoes, such as <br /> long-sleeved shirts, long pants and sturdy shoes or boots, are recommended.
