Among the delegates are the deputy mayor, two city councilors, several nurses, and city <br /> employees. Their visit will include a tour the new library, a meeting with Mayor Torrey and city staff, and <br /> meetings with representatives from Scared Heart. They will also enjoy the sights and culture of Eugene. <br /> The event is being hosted and sponsored by the Eugene-Kakegawa Sister City Committee. This is the 25th <br /> Anniversary of the sister city relationship between Eugene and Kakegawa. An outbound delegation from <br /> Eugene to Kakegawa is set for October of this year. A special 25th Anniversary Friendship Dinner to <br /> celebrate the sister city relationship and to honor the guests from Kakegawa will be held on Sunday, August <br /> 24, at 6:00 p.m. at the Hilyard Community Center, 2580 Hilyard Street. The community is invited to this <br /> event. The cost is $15 for general admission and $7 for Eugene-Kakegawa Sister City Committee members. <br /> The main course, beverages, plates and utensils will be provided, a potluck dessert is planned; no RSVP is <br /> required. For more information on the sister cities contact Mary <br /> Walston at 682-5406. <br /> Staff and Youth Corps Crews Work to Create `Green Pipe'along Amazon Creek <br /> Staffs from the Public Works Parks and Open Space Division are working with Lane Metro Youth Corps <br /> crews to create a "green pipe" in Amazon Creek this summer. Overhanging branches and other vegetation <br /> growing along the banks of the channel creates the pipe effect. The purpose of the project is to foster a <br /> balance between the drainage function of the channel and the natural resources that surround it. <br /> Amazon Creek was excavated in the 1950s by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to prevent flooding by <br /> 11411.improving conveyance of stormwater.
