The neighbor reported than a relative was unresponsive, apneic, and
pulseless and had been down about three minutes. Paramedic Woodrich gained access to the patient, who was in a
small restroom, moved the patient to the living room, and began CPR. When Winston-Dillard Fire District paramedics
arrived on the scene a few minutes later, they found that the patient's pulse and breathing had been restored. Paramedic
Woodrich continued to assist with the care of the patient, who, after a 30-minute transport to Mercy Medical Center in
Roseburg, had regained consciousness and was talking with staff.
For her actions in this incident, Paramedic Woodrich has been selected by the Oregon Department of Human Services to
receive a Lifesaving Medal at the EMS Awards Banquet on September 12, which will be held in conjunction with the
Oregon EMS Conference in Redmond. The award recognizes life-saving medical intervention performed while off-duty.
As a department, it is an honor to be represented in this fashion, and Paramedic Woodrich is to be commended for her
quick action and professionalism. To make arrangements to attend the awards banquet, or for additional information,
please contact Richard Straw, EMS Chief, at 682-7104.
C
EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER PAGE 3
