,_VA L./ 772,2_
_ —
EUGENE Aie
July 17, 2003
CONTACT:
■ Therese Picado, Parks and Open Space Public Information Specialist, 682-4814 or 682-
4800
• Chris Girard, Volunteers in Parks Coordinator, 682-4845, 915-5242 (cell)
• Jesse Cary-Hobbs, Natural Resource Maintenance, 682-4843, 912-8093 (cell)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW GENERATION OF MOUNTAIN BIKERS HELP REPAIR RIDGELINE TRAIL
Youth from the City of Eugene's Outdoor Program's mountain bike camp will join City of
Eugene Volunteers in Parks and Natural Resource Maintenance staff to repair and make
improvements to the Mt. Baldy to Spring Boulevard section of the Ridgeline Trail Tuesday, July
22, at 9:30 a.m. The work party is the result of a discussion that took place last month with
interested mountain bikers from the community and City staff about a host of issues regarding
the trail such as erosion damage due to rain and heavy use, ongoing trail maintenance, trail
access, and plans to acquire more land for extension of the trail. These young people will tackle
several of these issues by clearing ditches to improve drainage and make the trail less muddy;
reducing the grade on some treacherous downhill curves; repairing water barriers, also to
improve drainage; and smoothing out some of the rougher, more heavily impacted segments of
trail.
Other interested community members are welcome to give these young people a hand.
The group will meet at the Mt. Baldy trailhead. Travel south on Spring Boulevard until it dead
ends at the trailhead. For more information, call 682-4845 or 682-4843.
## #
C
