AMAZON CREEK BASIN
INTERIM REPORT
OCTOBER 1983
INTRODUCTION
Authority and Purpose
The Amazon Creek interim report is in response to a resolution, made by
the House Committee on Public Works on 14 August 1959, which requested that
the Corps review a report on Amazon Creek, Oregon, submitted in Senate
Document 131, Eighty-third Congress, Second Session, with a view to determin-
ing whether the existing project should be modified to provide additional
flood control. The report is also in partial response to a resolution made by
the Senate Committee on Public Works on 15 November 1961 which authorized the
Corps to undertake a comprehensive review of the Willamette River Basin, in
which Amazon Creek is situated, to determine whether any improvements should
be made to provide for current and future needs of basin residents.
This study was initiated in 1979, when funds were appropriated by
Congress. The primary purpose of the study was to determine flood control
needs of the basin and to evaluate alternative measures to meet these needs.
During the study, opportunities to improve water supply, water quality,
recreation, and fish and wildlife in Amazon Creek Basin were investigated.
The completed interim report was initially submitted to the Division
Engineer for review on 29 January 1981. The report was returned on 1
23 February 1982. This action was taken to provide for coordination with
local interests in their Emerald Canal.. Feasibility study_, and to incorporate
findings- of that study into the interim report.
