d. The levee crown should be graded as necessary to drain freely and to
allow access for maintenance equipment. Depressions which hold water and any
settlement or erosion of the crown should be backfilled and compacted. Ruts were
observed on the access road between Greenhill and Fir Butte Road. Ruts like this
can prevent vehicular access during periods of high rainfall.
Your on-going channel clearing operations are showing real progress. The
scheduled clearing downstream of Polk Street will be a•great improvement. It was
good to see that the used automobile tires noted in previous inspections near
Station 245+00 have been removed.
This inspection was made prior to the area's seasonal high water period to
give you an opportunity to correct any deficiencies prior to winter storms.
The Amazon Creek Flood Control System is sufficiently in compliance with
maintenance standards to be eligible for rehabilitation assistance. If we can be
of further service, please contact me at 503-221-6099.
Sincerely,
D. LESLIE MILLER, P. E.
Chief, Emergency Management Branch
