12/30/92 14:03 22503 887 5032 EUG PUBLIC WORKS -.-'-' EUGENE PW MAINT. 15001/004
45yk, ry-f1 At M►r'-
J
Upper Amazon Steering Committee Notes from 12-17-92
scg
Present: Randy MacDonald, Bruce Newhouse, Jennifer Guard, Jeff Krueger, Ken
Jackson (Oregon Trout) , Sally Keller, Steve Gordon
I talked about L-COG support through PW contract, the USF&WS proposal with
money for engineering design & habitat improvements with city match, contacts
for a future meeting (Esther Lev/ Mike Houck/ Ann Riley/ from urban streams
council ; Larry Fishbein/ Philip Williams Assocs. ; Bruce Williams of SCS; and
Sally Sheridan of NPS) . The group would like to see the Amazon project map
at its next meeting.
We discussed several possible activities for 1993 (a design charette, a field
trip, clean-up, presentations, a pot luck, a planting party, educational
stations) . The group decided to try to get guests to Eugene for a tour and
design charette to refine Jeff Kreuger's conceptual design on either Feb
26-28 or March 5-6. The revised design would then be available for an April
or spring vegetation/education event. Sally Keller introduced the "March for
A Park" program through the National Park Conservation Assoc. Such an event
has to take place April 17-19. She is checking with John Etter about it.
This event has some funding potential , and is held in advance of Earth Day
(April 22) . In June, the group would like to coordinate with KEZI/KEZL for
2nd Amazon Day. The group also wants to review goals.
Ken Jackson agreed to research Willamette Cutthroat use of the Long
Tom/Amazon basin. If so, is this a suitable stream and goal to reintroduce
this fish?
The group discussed participating in a stream rehab small -scale project,
doing neighborhood water quality testing, working with neighborhood schools
on a water quality project. They discussed working with a UO architecture
class for surveying and a planning student community workshop.
The committee would like to begin gathering data know about the project area:
roads, water, electrical lines, san. and storm lines, trees, channel location
with typical cross-sections, topography. (Deborah, can we talk about this
" item?)
In the fall , the group talked about another blackberry removal project.
I asked them if they followed up to Gene' s letter about the 300' clean up
needed abouve 24th Ave. After discussion, they wandered if we could get Tim
Hayford, mgr. Mult. Drainage Dist #1 , to come down with his "spider" and
participate in a demonstration with neighborhood veg. removal help to see if
there is a better way to remove sediments (apparently Gene indicated a volume
greater than the neighbors thought they could shovel out of the channel ) .
(Deborah,. let' s talk about this idea also - may be a good demonstration for
maintenan'c section) .
At end of meeting, Sally Keller read a note from Barbara Keller asking if SDC
funds could be programmed in CIP for assistance to the group. Randy agreed
to send a note to Les (which he did and Les respondedj.
Post-It'brand fax transmittal memo 7671 1.of pages ►
41
To From
I, r, I-Ia.mrr:v 'f' es-S134—r)c .
Co. co.
