HAMMITT Bob
From: ETTER John F
To: HAMMITT Bob
Subject: FW: Trail cost estimate, Amazon headwaters
Date: Tuesday, January 24, 1995 4:02PM
From: ETTER John F
To: HAMMITT Bob
Subject: Trail cost estimate, Amazon headwaters
Date: Tuesday, January 24, 1995 2:41 PM
The trail distance from Martin Street to a likely tie in to the Ridgeline Trail near Fox Hollow appears to be about
3400 feet, plus or minus 400 feet depending on need for
switchbacks and the need to go around areas that need to be avoided for one reason or another.
I'm estimating an average .4' deep x 4.0' crushed rock section, which is 16 L.F. per C.Y., or 213 C.Y., which is
about 20 loads of rock at about $100.00 per load dumped at trailheads by the gravel vendor. For estimating
purposes: $2,000.00 for gravel.
We should budget at least one creek crossing, and possibly some deckwork in wet areas. Materials could go
from a low of$500.00 if we can find a way to avoid wet areas to to over$2,000.00. For estimating purposes at
this time I would recommend
the $2,000.00 figure.
We've talked of a second trail so that there can be separation between hikers and mountain bikers. A doubling
of the first trail material cost should cover the second trail. A slightly wider bridge or deck treatment might add
50% to that cost. I would recommend a combined crossing to minimize wetland impact.
To all of the above I would add a $2,500.00 contingency for signs, bank retaining materials and small culverts or
perf pipe. The totals for the above items--the dual trail package--come to $9,500.00. Let's round up to
$10,000.00.
I believe that several sources of voluteer labor could be coordinated to construct the trail within one construction
season.
--John.
F
Page 1
