s s
LTn' .versity West
_ _
November 8, 1993
David Whitlow
Director Eugene Department of Public Safety
Eugene, Oregon
Director Whitlow:
The neighborhood park on 14th between Hilyard and Patterson
has become a haven for drug dealers and alcoholics. The police
have made numerous arrests at this park for illegal drug
transactions, open containers, and outstanding warrants.
Illegal activity at this park has had a detrimental effect on
the West University Business area.
The University Small Business Association is requesting that
you authorize Public Works to remove the large covered picnic
shelter and the covered areas along the west side of the park.
This would allow police to have an unrestricted view of park
activities and would eliminate a dry, sheltered area as a
gathering place for those people committing illegal acts.
We appreciate the cooperation of the Public Safety Department
in making the West University Area a safe place to shop.
Sincerely,
-77
i
Julie Golf, President
University Small Business Association
