Though she didn't say so directly the gist of her message was that she thought she <br /> would be able to finish sometime next week. Also, the site west of the community center has a good <br /> stand of California oat grass, another species that they plan to collect. In response to my query, she didn't <br /> know yet whether they needed this site for that species or there were other sites available. She needed to <br /> get in touch with Kathy Pendergrass of BLM to make that determination. The California oat grass seed is <br /> mature and ready to be collected in the last week of June or first week of July. I understand the position <br /> you're in relative to the neighbor complaints about the grass, but at the same time, this whole issue of <br /> seed collecting sites (or the lack thereof) for wetland restoration projects is a major issue. In a way, the <br /> area west of the community center is especially valuable for seed collecting because since it is not an area <br /> recieving any special protection, we don't need to be as concerned about the impacts of collecting the <br /> seeds on the populations as we might be at a more pristine site. So, it seems that there are some policy <br /> issues here related to the use of city lands for seed collecting that should probably be discussed. Perhaps <br /> the INRT meeting would be a good place to do so. I will also forward this message to Deborah Evans so <br /> she is aware of the situation. <br /> -Ed <br /> Page 2 <br />
