JENNINGS Carrie A
From: EVANS Deborah S
To: JENNINGS Carrie A; LYLE Les A
Cc: MILLS Gale L; KROECK Louis G
Subject: RE: Tugman Creek
Date: Thursday, June 01, 1995 12:55PM
Water Resources Team discusssed a restoration project that would address the chronic flooding issue as
well as potentially mitigate for the wetland impacts due to the remediation project. However, we dropped
it because of the decision to mitigate in Amazon Park and funding constraints. There is definitely an
opportunity for enhancement here. Louis could provide a concept drawing if there is any interest in
pursuing this option. Deborah
From: LYLE Les A
To: JENNINGS Carrie A
Cc: EVANS Deborah S; MILLS Gale L
Subject: RE: Tugman Creek
Date: Thursday, June 01, 1995 12:44PM
Bob, I will foreword this to Gale Mills who has been working
on the drainage issues. We will be piping a portion of the
headwaters adjacent to the landfill which will effect the
velocity but shouldn't add to the quantity of flow. We are
putting an energy dissipater at the outfall that should
minimize erosion problems. Gale please confirm and add any
details needed. I agree we should try to do some enhancement
while we are there since this is an amenity for the park. The
water resources team should be able to provide some advice. I
will pass on to Deborah. Not sure what the surrounding
community may think and if you want to have any public input.
We could pass by our stormwater DAC if you'd like to give them
a real live situation to consider. They really need the
reality situations to help them round out some of their
perspectives. Let me know what you think. Water sheeted across the
parkland and over the curb onto Hilyard Street during several
rainstorms. We also received a citizen complaint regarding
this flooding. Staff inspection indicates that since the
ditch was last cleaned approximately 12 years ago, it has
become clogged with silt, vegetation, and other debris.
Maintenance staff is planning to perform some cleaning this
summer in order to regain the lost capacity.
This project raises several questions. One of those is, will
the landfill project (which I understand includes some piping)
cause any increased capacity needs for the ditch? Les, please
have the appropriate person on your staff research that.
Another question is, will opening this ditch have any impact
on the capping project? Chuck, I look to you for some answers
regarding the impacts of us disturbing the creek bed. Was
Page 1
