SHELDON.RFT Page 1
MEMORANDUM
Date: October 5, 1993
From: Dick Morgan, Parks Maintenance Manager
To: Jim Johnson, LRCS
Subject: SHELDON BALLFIELD LIGHTING SYSTEM REMOVAL
Bob Hammitt has asked me to follow-up with you on the Sheldon ballfield lighting system removal.
John Lock from School District 4J contacted me on Monday, October 4, 1993, to let me know that the school district
is now interested in removal of the Sheldon lighting system. They conducted their own pole testing and the results
substantiated what our prior testing had already determined.
John Lock understands that 4J owns the lighting system, but feels that the City through the maintenance agreement
should participate in its removal. He would like to know to what level (monetary)that the City might participate? It is
my understanding from Bob Hammitt, that you were to have a discussion with Mike Gleason on how to proceed with
this matter.
It sounded as if the school district is prepared to bear the burden of removing the electrical system and transformers
with PCB's. John Lock would like the City to participate in the removal and hauling off of the ten poles. This might
cost between $1,500 to $2,000 for crane rental. We would have some additional labor and equipment expenses.
Have you had any discussions with Mike Gleason or School District 4J representatives?
Have any agreements been made concerning the City's participation in the removal of the Sheldon Ballfield lighting
system?
I would appreciate any information that you might have concerning this matter! If we can get the Sheldon lighting
system removed for under$2,000 and staff time on our part, it's a bargain.
cc: Bob Hammitt, Public Works Maintenance Director
• Christine Andersen, Public Works Director
Doug Post, Recreation Superintendent
