Cleveland Wrecking of
Oakland, California was selected as the demolition contractor through a bid process last year. Demolition was delayed
while the Federal General Services Administration worked out a three-party Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the
State Historic Preservation Office and the City. The MOA calls for historic/archeological documentation and steps to
protect the historic Agripac Office building. The agreement was signed in mid-May.
Demolition on the Federal Courthouse site is expected to take 60 days. Demolition on the entire site is to be completed
within six months. As part of the contract specifications, the contractor is required to demonstrate that 90% of the
material removed from the site is diverted from the landfill. Construction of the Federal Courthouse is now scheduled to
begin in December 2003. Substantial completion of the project is expected in late 2005. For information on the
demolition process, contact Mike Penwell, Facilities Division, 682-5547.
