While the new law does not take effect until January 1, 2004,
Eugene's Fire& EMS Department recognizes that these types of activities increase during the summer months, and is
taking steps to educate students now.
This week, staff from the Eugene Fire Marshal's Office will be distributing fliers about roller sports safety, and about the
new state law,to all students in the Bethel and 4J school districts. The department is sponsoring this effort in
cooperation with the Oregon Fire Chiefs Association. A copy of the flier is included in this week's Council packet.
