NEWS & NOTES <br /> Boat launch dedication set <br /> The new boat launch at Alton <br /> Baker Park will be dedicated Satur- <br /> day,with an inaugural non- <br /> motorized boat parade and celebra- <br /> tion.The boat launch is located off of <br /> Day Island Road,across from the <br /> Cuthbert Amphitheater.The dedica- <br /> tion will begin at 11 a.m.,with re- <br /> marks from city manager Dennis <br /> Taylor and former city manager Jim <br /> Johnson,representatives from McK- <br /> enzie Fly Fishers and Northwest <br /> Steelheaders,and others.The boat <br /> parade will follow the presentations <br /> at 11:30 a.m.All non-motorized craft <br /> are welcome to participate.Partici- <br /> pants are asked to have their craft in <br /> the water by 11 a.m.and to follow <br /> standard water safety guidelines, <br /> making sure that all passengers wear <br /> life jackets and each boat is equipped <br /> with a whistle.For more information <br /> about the boat parade,call 684-7747. <br /> For more information about vendor <br /> displays or the event,call 682-4800. <br /> Halibut fishing days added <br /> �.. <br /> Sufficient poundage remains after <br /> the May recreational fishery for an <br /> additional three days of fishing June <br /> 19-21 for Pacific halibut in all-depth <br /> waters between Cape Falcon and the <br /> Florence north jetty.Halibut from <br /> this all-depth fishery can only be <br /> landed into ports located north of <br /> Florence.The spring quota between <br /> the Florence north jetty and Humbug <br /> Mountain was taken earlier this <br /> month.Thus,the all-depth fishery <br /> between the Florence north jetty and ►1�e Re fo\ <br /> Humbug Mountain will not reopen tvec "u� <br /> until August. 7 <br /> May 29, 2003 <br /> `Talking Stones'dedication set <br /> The educational group Nearby <br /> Nature will hold a dedication cere- <br /> mony Saturday for the"Kalapuya <br /> Talking Stones"in Alton Baker <br /> Park.The event begins at 2 p.m.at <br /> the park host residence.Esther <br /> Stutzman,a Kalapuya elder,will con- <br /> duct the ceremonial dedication of the <br /> stones,upon which are engraved <br /> words of the Kalapuya language.The <br /> ceremony will include Indian drum- <br /> ming and song.The Kalapuya were <br /> the largest Indian group in western <br /> ti„` Oregon when the Euro-Americans <br /> first arrived.The talking stones were <br /> installed in the Whilamut Natural <br /> area in December. <br />
