hosts of trilliums, and western Solomon's seal."
Comfortable shoes and dressing appropriately for all kinds of weather is suggested. The wildflower tour travels through
the area around the shelter and into an area of the forest that was recently cleared of ivy on gravel or wood chip paths.
-he rhododendron tour winds through the hillside garden on groomed gravel paths that are largely accessible to people
using wheelchairs. Pets are not allowed.
Tours will continue every Sunday through May 18. Parking is limited at the park; alternative transportation is strongly
encouraged. To visit the park by bus, take the#27 Fairmount route to Walnut and 17th, walk south to Fairmount, and
continue one block, then turn east on Summit and walk up to the top of the hill where the Wilkins shelter is located. "The Oregon No Call List makes it easier for consumers to prevent unwanted
telephone solicitations" Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers said. "After consumers add their telephone numbers to
the list, their privacy is protected and the responsibility rests with telemarketers to leave them alone." The No Call List is
also designed to address the growing problem of telemarketing fraud, which costs U.S. consumers an estimated $40
billion annually.
The Oregon No Call List costs $6.50 per number for the first year. The renewal fee is$3.00 per year. The list does not
require any special equipment or any changes to existing telephone service. To sign up, call 1-877-NOCALL (1-877-700-
6622) or register online at the Oregon No Call List website, www.ornocall.com. In 1992, the mechanical, electrical, and
chemical engineering departments began participating in the program, which was renamed the Multiple Engineering
Cooperative Program (MECOP). The Civil Engineering Cooperative Program (CECOP) began in 1997, allowing
competitively selected civil and environmental engineering students to gain experience in practical and state-of-the art
engineering applications. The MECOP/CECOP program has recently extended its reach to include students from
Portland State University and Oregon Institute of Technology. Currently, there are 52 companies in Oregon and
Washington and 230 student interns involved in the MECOP/CECOP program.
This is the fifth year the Public Works Engineering Division has provided CECOP intemships. The participating students
this year are Christina Pierce on the Transportation team, Jason Wuertz with the "Easteam" project team, and Corey
McManus with the "Darwins" project team. "We are appreciative of the opportunity to experience engineering in the
professional environment,"says McManus. "This opportunity will assist us in course selection, motivation, and
understanding ourselves. Hopefully Eugene will gain a new perspective in addition to utilizing our talents." For more
information about the CECOP program, contact Project Manager Steve Gallup at 682-8460.
linsommimmommunimmlimmaimosammamismummommimummimmummilTHIS WEEK
04/10 Th 5:30pm BB, JS Police Commission McNutt Room
04/10 Th 5:30pm BT McKenzie Watershed Council TBA
WE K
PAGE 4
EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER PAGE
4
April 11,2003
