A report, which details impacts and recommends strategies for mitigating these impacts, was
discussed. Some of the most significant impacts include litter, erosion, and loss of vegetation along the trails. The group
agreed on the recommendations proposed in the report, which include concentrating the work of litter clean-up crews in
high impact areas and installing interpretive signs to educate visitors about the natural resource values of the park and
ncourage them to stay on paths. The final report will be forwarded to the City Manager shortly.
This is the second year that monitoring and reporting have been in place. It is a requirement associated with the
expansion of Autzen Stadium, and has resulted in a clearer understanding of impacts to the park, as well as increased
communication between the City, UO and the Citizen Planning Committee. For more information about the report or
mitigation strategies, contact Parks Planner Carolyn Weiss at 682-4914.
I THIS WEEK
I NEXT WEEK
03/10 M 5:30pm All Council Dinner Work Session McNutt Room
ABSENT: Nathanson, Taylor
03/10 M 7:30pm All Council Meeting Council Chamber
ABSENT: Nathanson, Taylor
03/12 W Noon All Council Lunch Work Session McNutt Room
03/12 W 5:00pm SM,DK,GP IGR Committee McNutt Room
03/12 W 7:00pm NN Mayor's Comm. on Parks and
Open Space Atrium/Saul Room
03/13 CANCELLED JT,NN Public Safety Coordinating Council
03/13 Th 5:30pm BB, JS Police Commission McNutt Room
EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER PAGE 3
March 7,2003 cc030603.wpd
