On Friday, February
21, at 1 p.m., volunteers will gather at the Native Plant Nursery, a nursery managed by Stream
Team and dedicated to propagating and preserving native plant species, to weed and collect
cuttings for propagation. On Saturday, February 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., young people from
Living Hope Church's youth group, The Flip Side, will help Stream Team restore habitat by
pulling ivy, an invasive plant species in the area, between the Mill Race and the Willamette
River. Simultaneously, OSPIRG (Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group) students
from the University of Oregon and Lane Community College will be digging up blackberries,
another common invasive plant species, and possibly planting native plants near Autzen
Footbridge, starting at 1 p.m. Community members are welcome to join any of these work
parties.
Tools, gloves and snacks will be provided. Interested volunteers should pre-register. The
Stream Team Program offers volunteers the opportunity to restore, care for and learn more
about the city's waterways and natural areas. For more information about these and other
projects and trainings this spring, call 682-4850.
## #
I
