Over the
past year, Public Works Transportation staff have met with local business owners, residents, the area's neighborhood
group and several councilors to find ways to make it safer for pedestrians to cross Willamette between 24th and 27"'
Avenues as well as improve other aspects of traffic safety in this heavily traveled commercial area.
The new signal will provide full-service traffic control in both directions at 25th and Willamette, including pedestrian-
activated signal buttons, crosswalks, and ADA ramps. Staff estimates the project will cost about$40,000 using City-
owned signal equipment and Public Works electrical and concrete crews for the installation work. The City costs will be
charged to road fund operations.
The first phase of the project is scheduled to begin February 11 with the installation of the pole bases and other concrete
work. After the concrete has set up for several weeks, crews will return to install the poles, span wires, and signal
equipment. The project is expected to be completed by the end of March.
