This will be the
first day for the registry process since the ordinance became effective February 1.
The Domestic Partner Registry allows unmarried couples who meet certain requirements to obtain official recognition of
their relationship. The registry is a means of validating a committed relationship and providing documentation that may
be required for insurance purposes. Domestic partnership registration does not create any new or different legal rights or
responsibilities between partners or between employers and employees.
In order to register, domestic partners must sign a statement, certified by the City Recorder, affirming that they are:
• in a relationship of mutual support and intend to remain in such a relationship;
• not married to or registered as the domestic partner of any other person in any jurisdiction, nor has either
terminated or registered a domestic partnership within the preceding six months;
• both 18 years of age or older;
• not related by blood kinship closer than would bar marriage in the state of Oregon; and are mentally competent to
consent to contract.
Registration is by appointment only. After February 14, appointments will be available during designated times on
Mondays and Thursdays and can be made by calling the City Recorder's Office at 682-5042. Both partners must be
present at the appointment, which is expected to take about 15 minutes. The registration fee is $50.00. For more
information, please contact Mary Feldman or Kris Aanderud in the City Recorder's Office at 682-5042.
EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER PAGE 1
February 14,2003 cc021303.wpd
