Hope you got your purse back in order and your day is unfolding with less aggravation. Thanks for
your interest in our parks projects and crews. Here's the information you requested to complete your story:
• There are approximately 2,600 acres in the parks and open space system in Eugene. About 600 of those
acres are currently developed parks and require regular maintenance.
• The Irrigation crew maintains over 120 miles or 600,000 feet of irrigation pipe.
• The playground will be installed around mid February(weather permitting).
• Eric Johnson, Parks Amenities Supervisor, will refer the basketball backboard to the crew as a
maintenance project.
• The playground surface will be engineered woodchips which is real wood of uniform size, is ADA
accessible, and is produced locally.
• The trees that will be planted in the park in the spring are showy ornamental varieties to bring some
color to the park in spring and fall--red horsechestnut (first to bloom in spring with big pink spires -
good shade in the summer), Autumn Blaze red maple (brilliant fall color, as the name suggests), and
Scarlet Spire crabapple (magenta blooms in the spring and purple summer foliage).
Thanks, Diane.
