NEWS RELEASE - EASTSIDE RESTORES AMAZON
PAGE 3
November 14, 2002
The meadow restoration site is located next to a popular neighborhood jogging
trail and bike path. "While we were working at the site, several neighbors stopped and
asked us what we were doing," said Eugene Stream Team Coordinator Lorna Baldwin.
"This project provides an opportunity for neighbors to see native plants and learn to
identify and appreciate them, as well as the chance to educate the public about the need to
conserve and restore native plant communities."
The project received funding from the Earth Day, Everyday Foundation of Oregon
to buy plants and tools. Eugene Stream Team also provided tools, snacks, and plants.
Some plants were also donated by Springfield gardener Sue Mandeville. The Eugene-
Springfield Chapter of the North American Butterfly Association organized a group order
of native plants which allowed Eastside school to purchase plants at wholesale prices.
###
L
