Concrete skateboarding bowls have since become part of the
Churchill and Cal Young youth sports parks, with the city's
third such facility now under construction at the new Bethel
Community Park.
Stephanie Mohler and Geth Noble - co-owners of Airspeed
Skateparks, the Florence-based general contractors for the
Bethel skateboard project - were at the site building a drainage
system and doing other preparation work recently. They intend
to have the bowl completed by Oct. 15.
"This park's going to be different than the other two in town,"
Mohler says. "Free-form shapes, really organic. There'll be
something for everyone - all levels of skating.
"We already had a meeting with all the (Bethel-area) skaters,"
she says. "And we skated with them awhile."
Twelve-year-old Samuel Troxel, riding his board at nearby
Meadow View School, says he can't wait for the finished
product.
"It'll give something for skaters to do," he says. "Now, I'm just
stuck here in Bethel."
Related:
Follow the money
Copyright© 2002 The Register-Guard
1/41100,
http://www.registerguard.com/news/2002/08/18/1 a.parkproj ects.0818.html 8/26/02
