Site
improvements include:
•
a new, underground irrigation system with pop-up spray _ . -. ..* . ...._
heads;
• replacement of the old metal pathway edging with
poured-in-place concrete curbing; '""" ''
• eradication of invasive weeds;
• removal of cobbles and rocks from the ground surface;
• spreading of loam and the seeding of a new turf grass; ;
and 1
• refurbishing the crushed rock path to maintain an
accessible surface for wheelchair users.
Residents and staff alike are pleased with the result: a beautifully manicured tree garden. One resident and tree donor
said, "I am delighted with the whole way the Hays Memorial Tree Garden has developed. It looks very attractive and is a
real plus for the Eugene landscape."
Located immediately north of Cuthbert Amphitheater in Alton Baker Park, the garden was created to showcase a wide
variety of trees that grow in this climate zone and offer residents the opportunity to honor a loved one, commemorate a
iecial event or to simply improve the natural environment and community. Over the past three years, 26 trees have
`•Teen planted and memorial plaques placed throughout the garden. For more information about the garden
improvements, contact Turf and Grounds lead worker Rob Hallett at 682-4827. For more information about donation
opportunities, contact parks planner John Weber at 682-4908.
I THIS WEEK 1
[NEXT WEEK I
07/22 M 5:30pm All Council Dinner Work Session Council Chamber
07/22 M 8:00pm All Council Meeting Council Chamber
07/24 W Noon All Council Lunch Work Session McNutt Room
UPCOMING
07/30 T 4:00pm JT Mayor's One-on-One Council Chamber **
07/30 T 5:30pm BB,NN,SM Planning Commission + 3 Atrium/Sloat Room
07/30 T 7:00pm GP Human Rights Commission Council Chamber
(PH on Code Revisions)
07/31 W Noon All Council Lunch Work Session McNutt Room
%august
,„.,8/05 M Noon DK Housing Policy Board McNutt Room **
EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTERPAGE 4
cc020725.wpd
July 25,2002
