Interested community members should meet at
Westmoreland Park near the Fillmore Street parking lot.
The event commemorates Arbor Day, a national tree holiday. Established in 1872, the
day was set aside to plant ceremonial trees, educate children about the importance of trees and
honor the important role trees play in our communities. Today all 50 states celebrate Arbor Day.
In Oregon, the first full week in April has been designated as Arbor Week.
"By planting additional trees in Westmoreland Park and caring for last year's plantings,
we are showing our commitment to effective, ongoing community forestry programs," says Mark
Snyder, City of Eugene Urban Forester.
For more information, call 682-4831.
###
L
