inter
The City and its West Eugene Wetlands partners submitted this grant proposal through the North American Wetlands
Conservation Act program in early 2001. The proposal was reviewed and ranked against competing proposals throughout
the United States. Funding for the program comes from sales of Federal duck stamps and other revenue sources. The
U.S. Migratory Bird Commission gave the final approval for the funding at its March 13 meeting in Washington D.C.
his grant follows a previous award of$900,000 for wetlands acquisition from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board
in early 2001, along with numerous congressional appropriations from the Land &Water Conservation Funds that have
helped build the west Eugene wetlands that comprise Eugene's largest open space system.
City of Eugene, BLM, and Nature Conservancy staff worked closely with the Fish &Wildlife's Pacific Coast Joint Venture
program and the Oregon Wetlands Joint Venture program to create the proposal, which focus on waterfowl habitat
enhancement and wetland protection. The land will be enhanced and restored in the future and managed jointly by the
partner organizations. For more information, contact Scott Duckett, Wetlands and Open Waterways Manager, at
682-4842.
THIS WEEK
Council Break: March 14-April 8, 2002
NEXT WEEK
03/26 T 4:00pm GP Mayor One-on-One Council Chamber **
03/28 Th Noon PF CVALCO Board Meeting DoubleTree, Springfield,
McKenzie Room
UPCOMING
Ctpril
4/08 M 5:30pm All Council Dinner Work Session McNutt Room
04/08 M 8:00pm All Council Meeting Council Chamber
04/10 W Noon All Council Lunch Work Session McNutt Room
04/11 Th 11:30am JT,BT Metropolitan Policy Committee LTD **
04/11 Th 3:00pm NN,JT Public Safety Coordinating Council Juvenile Justice Center
04/11 Th 5:30pm BB, BT Police Commission Churchill High School Cafeteria **
04/15 M 5:30pm Council Budget Committee Council Chamber
04/16 T 6:00pm GP Human Rights Commission McNutt Room
04/17 W Noon All Council Process Session McNutt Room
04/22 M 5:30pm Council Budget Committee Council Chamber
04/24 W Noon All Council Lunch Work Session McNutt Room **
04/25 Th Noon PF CVALCO Board Meeting Town Club, Wildish Room
04/25 Th Noon JT Lane Workforce Partnership DAC **
04/29 M 5:30pm Council Budget Committee Council Chamber
** Denotes changes or additions to calendar
UNAVAILABLE FOR CITY COUNCIL BUSINESS
Torrey March 22-April 1
Taylor: April 28-May 1
C
2
EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER cc020321.PAGE 2
March 22,2002
