Several irrigation valves were replaced along Hilyard Street. In addition, a valve leaking for some time along
the berm at Amazon Community Center was also replaced. The new valves will provi e more 1picilt-
' capabilities than the older valves.L
S Staff installed a, new bench along the bike path that borders Amazon Park.r`'
- shed was replaced.
A has on the commune garden tools
P h' g P
Cottonwood suckers, blackberries and overgrown weeds were cut back and removed from Washburne Park
along Agate Street.
- Staff painted hand rails and replaced old deteriorating bench boards at University Park around the
amphitheater. Many of the hand rails were rotten and created a safety concern.
- Several broken irrigation heads were replaced at Amazon Community Center.
Staff responded to three reports of yellow jacket and bald-faced hornet nests at Amazon Community Center
and Tugman Park.
- The Federal Courthouse storm water facilities were string trimmed; the vegetation was pruned, and
landscaped along Mill Street.
The exterior restrooms at Tugman Park were cleaned and painted.
- The main kiosk in the Rhododendron Garden was repainted due to graffiti and vandalism.
- Staff repaired a drinking fountain drain where the screws had broken off inside the structure.
The Hendricks team got the Powell fountain operational.
With an extended heat wave and drought conditions, staff has been doing more hand watering throughout the
Hendricks Rhododendron Garden.
- The two portable picnic tables were refurbished at Washington Park in support of the Recreation Division's
Fun for All camp programs.
The sport fields at Ida Patterson and Washington parks were fertilized to maintain turf health, durability and
playability of the turf
After last year's Festival of Eugene event in west Skinner Butte, the event organizer relayed comments the
turf had some cracks that at times made it difficult to walk on. In preparation for this year's event we had
loam dumped on the event turf area to fill in the cracks and the lowest area. The event area covers about thirty
thousand square feet of turf that is much more usable and safer to traverse.
-- An additional ten yards of tree chips were placed adjacent to Lamb Cottage.
- Several irrigation repairs involving valves, valve boxes, and irrigation heads were completed in Washington
and Martin Luther King parks.
- Bio-swale maintenance was completed in the Story -Wilkins section of the Crest Drive complex.
- In support of the shelter being removed from Charnel Mulligan Park, approximately a dozen shrubs and
rhododendrons were removed. These plants would have been run over by the moving equipment in not
removed. They were saved for future replanting in other parks when the need arises.
- Continued trimming trees in Skinner Butte to remove limbs that are low or damaged and for mower clearance.
- Five yards of loam was spread around some of the player benches at Graham ball fields. Due to settling and
usage the concrete was above the soil line. This improves usability and prevents mower decks from hitting the
concrete edge.
Monthly irrigation checks are providing us the opportunity to continually adjust the system for maximum
effectiveness and efficiency.
North Region
- Landscape maintenance was completed on street medians located on Willakenzic Rd., Coburg Rd.,
Cedarwood Dr., the I-105 off ramp onto Coburg Rd., I-5 bike path near the bridge to Springfield, and Ferry
St. Bridge landscapes near Eugene Silkscreen.
- Landscape maintenance was completed in the landscapes beds along street entrance at Willakenzie Park.
Much of these landscapes are inundated with aggressive weed species such as field bindweed. Due to the
proximity of the beds to the play area, herbicides are not an option due to the Pesticide Free Buffer Zone of 25
-5-
P:1Marketi ng&OutreachlSection.Repot-is,etclP© S_Managers_Section_Reports12015 .
