While work is under way, that section of 40 will be closed to <br />th <br />eastbound traffic. A single lane will be maintained for westbound traffic. However, motorists are <br />encouraged to use East 39 or alternate routes. <br />th <br />More extensive repairs are planned for Donald Street. Starting Thursday afternoon and <br />continuing for about a week, Donald Street will be closed to northbound traffic at 33 Avenue as <br />rd <br />crews from Eugene Sand and Gravel, working under contract to Eugene Public Works, repair and <br />repave Donald Street from Willamette Street to 33 Avenue. <br />rd <br />That will be followed by complete reconstruction of Donald Street from 33 to 40 avenues. <br />rdth <br />Crews will excavate the roadway, rebuild the road base using an in-place cement treatment, and <br />then apply a new asphalt surface. Work will be completed in three phases with each phase closing <br />sections of Donald to all traffic. Detours will be in place. Donald is expected to be reopened from <br />Willamette to 40 by early September. <br />th <br />Estimated cost of the two street repair projects is approximately $2.3 million. Primary <br />sources of funding are the voter-approved 2012 bond measure to fix city streets and Eugene’s 5- <br />cent-per-gallon local gas tax. <br />Watch for signs and cones directing traffic in work zones. Use alternate routes to avoid <br />delays and detours.
