DATE: May 1, 2015
CONTACT: Emma Newman, Springfield Safe Routes to School Coordinator,
emma.newman@springfield.k12.or.us, 541-744-6373 ext 233, 541-228-0699 (c)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bike Together on Mother’s Day with CycloFemme

Looking for something fun to do on May 10, Mother’s Day? Hop on a bike and join more than
200 people on a casual bike ride around Eugene and Springfield to celebrate women on wheels.
Riders will gather at 1:30 p.m. at Owen Memorial Rose Garden (300 North Jefferson Street
in Eugene) and Willamalane Swim Center (1276 G Street in Springfield) and depart at 2 p.m. Each
ride will take a leisurely pace to the celebration site in Island Park. Everyone is welcome to join the
rides.
The Eugene and Springfield rides are just two of over 300 rides that will be happening on
May 10 in more than 25 countries across the globe. CycloFemme is an annual international
Mother’s Day ride that unites riders, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, or bicycle preference to
share in the joy of riding bikes. Ride with us as we honor the past, celebrate the present, and
empower the future of women in cycling.
“I had to literally dust off my bike in the garage,” said Jessica Joy, a local blogger who
participated in the 2014 Springfield CycloFemme ride. By the end of the ride, she decided, “my bike
is done being dusty. There are too many great rides waiting to be had!”
Eugene and Springfield’s versions of this international ride will have a “pretty skirts” theme
(to be interpreted by each rider), temporary tattoos, and snacks. If you have general questions
about the ride or would like to help promote it, please contact Emma Newman at
emma.newman@springfield.k12.or.us or 541-744-6373 ext 233.
Visit the Eugene-Springfield CycloFemme 2015 Facebook event at
bit.ly/EugSpfldCycloFemme15 for more information or visit http://cyclofemme.com/ for
information about the worldwide celebration.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
