41-ft
Public Works
Parks & Open Space
March 12, 201.5
Dear Past Dog Training Permit Holder:
RE: Requesting 2015 Golden Gardens In -Water Dog Training Permits
For many years, dog trainers have trained dogs in the ponds at Golden Gardens Park without
conflicts with other park users, and the dog training activities brought positive activity and
attention to an underused park. In the past, the City provided permits in an informal process to
dog owners to conduct in -water dog training activities at the park However, in response to
problems that occurred during the 2012 dog training season, a more formal permitting process
was implemented in 2013. The rules are intended to ensure dog training in the ponds remains
compatible with other park uses, and all dog trainers.are complying with applicable laws for
dogs and City parks. Consistent with this intent, the number of permits will be limited to 10.
Consistent with the regulations adopted in 2013, dog trainers will have to submit a written
application for a permit. You may request a permit application in writing or by email from:
Clara Matsler, City of Eugene Parks and Open Space
1820 Roosevelt Blvd., Eugene OR 97402
clara.t.matsler @ci.eugene.or.us
Along with your signed written application, you will need to provide copies of the following
written records in order to obtain a permit for in -water dog training at Golden Gardens Park:
1) Written proof of current license(s) for each dog in training,
2) Written proof of current rabies vaccination for each dog in training.
We hope the rules and application process will allow this use to continue as a positive use in the
park, while minimizing violations and conflicts with other park users. Please be aware that, with
declining use of Golden Gardens Ponds by dog trainers, and with increasing use by other park
users, along with planned future development of new facilities in this park, the Parks and Open
Space Division anticipates phasing out this use over the coming years. If you have any questions
with regard to the application process, you may contact Clara Matsler at the email address
shown above, or at 541- 682 -49OR
Sincerely,
Neil B°J orklund bq
Parks and Open Space Planning Manager
