December 24, 2014

CONTACT: Damon Joyner, Surface Maintenance Supervisor, 541-682-4835

From Public Information Section, 541-682-5523 or 541-954-2938

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Second Round of Leaf Pickups Scheduled to Begin Monday in Eugene
The second and final round of leaf collection service in Eugene begins Monday, Dec. 29.
Because many of the leaves in Eugene were picked up in the first round, crews will start in
the downtown area and move quickly through the city, expecting to finish by Jan. 23.
Eugene residents can track the progress of the collection crews and see which areas are
scheduled to be picked up next by going to www.eugene-or.gov/leaf and clicking on “When will
crews be in my neighborhood?” or by calling Eugene Public Works Maintenance at 541-682-4800.
Do not place leaves in the street after the second pickup has been completed in your
neighborhood. Residents are responsible for removing any leaves or other debris not picked up by
the City. Other leaf collection tips:

Do not put leaves in bike lanes.

Place leaves in the street a few days before collection is scheduled in your neighborhood,

keeping in mind that crews could come by on any of the days in the published schedule.

Leave at least 15 feet between leaf piles and parked cars.

Particularly on unimproved streets, do not put leaves in ditches or landscaped areas. Don’t

pile leaves on valve boxes or sprinklers or next to fences or utility poles.

Be patient. All streets will be swept but sweeper crews cannot move as quickly as the

collection crews.
During the first round, Public Works crews collected about 8,600 cubic yards of leaves,
including 215 cubic yards collected from priority bike lanes. Nearly 75% of the leaves collected
were delivered to residents who value leaves as a free and natural source of composting and
mulching material.
# # #

Public Works Administration ● City of Eugene ● 101 E.
